Older Persons Savings Fund

We are prototyping a model of impact investing. The first prototype of this is with Health Nest Uganda in which older persons have a SACCO (Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization). As a community, they decide how to invest money from their savings into cooperative social enterprise projects. Traditionally, credit is unavailable to older persons as they are deemed risky borrowers. The first community project they engaged in is to develop sustainable community solutions for food security. They developed an action plan to learn how to develop backyard gardens, to market food products, and rear animals.

The Older Persons Groups raised the first 250,000 UG Shillings (about $70 USD). Friends from the U.S. came together to match contributions Older Persons Groups were making to their SACCO (Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization).

AMOUNT RAISED: $1,098
