THE HOPE FOR YOUTH UGANDA SCHOOL POULTRY FARM provides a viable source of protein for the children and income to help contribute the administrative and academic costs by selling eggs. This project helps Hope For Youth Uganda to become an independent, ongoing, viable and self-reliant organization. The poultry is also a source of manure that will increase the yields of its gardens.

Thank you to O. W. Holmes Elementary School 5th graders, Glencoe Central Middle School Social Action Club, St. Ignatius school, Dominican University Graduate School of Social Work students, and many others for raising funds to build the coop and purchase chicks!
Up to 2,000 eggs per day will provide nutrition for students and revenue to pay teachers salaries!

USER-FRIENDLY PIT LATRINES FOR OLDER PERSONS were built for older persons in Entebbe, Uganda. Squatting during, and getting up after, using a pit latrine is an infernal torture to many older persons whose bones, joints and muscles are no longer able to respond the way they used to. The need for user-friendly toilets has been identified by older persons themselves together with their household members.
COST PER ELDER-FRIENDLY TOILET: $150

A LIBRARY at Hope for Youth Primary School in Mukono, Uganda has been completed with your support! The new school library will serve as an invaluable resource for the entire community. It will be an uplifting gathering place for all generations.
Many appreciations to Tali Braun and Sachi Enochty for raising a majority of the funds for the library and sending a shipping container of books to line the shelves.

HEALTH KITS including soap, basic food supplies, masks, and charcoal were provided to for 1,000 older persons at most risk during the first COVID shelter-in-place restrictions.
Older persons in Uganda are not covered by a pension or social protection system (although one is being tested now for the oldest old and provides about $7/month for basic needs). Many older persons live in poverty, often selling what they grow in their garden or crafts to help provide for their basic needs. During shelter-in-place, they are faced with the challenge of decreasing income, family members unable to visit or support, and social isolation.

Thank you to everyone who joined hands together to make a difference in the lives of older persons and their families.
